The girls relay teams were a bright spot for Paradise at the Region II-3A meet in Whitehouse Friday and Saturday.

The 4×100 and 4×200 teams both won bronze, slightly missing state bids.

Kyndall McCasland, Amber French, Carressa McCasland and Mikela Beck made up the 4×100 team, while Kyndall McCasland, Taylor Richards, Carressa McCasland, Aliya Read competed in the 4×200.

The 4×100 relay’s 50.22 was just .01 shy of qualifying for the state meet in Austin, and the 4×200 team fell three seconds short of making the cut.

Paradise’s 4×400 team of Caressa McCasland, Read, Richards and Beck came in sixth with a time of 4:11.44.

Paradise’s Haley Rector finished fourth in the pole vault at 10-0, and Boyd’s best finish came from Lindsay Thorpe whose 36-10.5 shot put was good for bronze.

For the Paradise boys, the 4×200 team of Austin Hogan, Darian Sotomi, Nick Loney and Cash Preather set a school record with a 1:31.97 to qualify for regional finals.

After the meet, Paradise boys track coach Jonathan Ryle was reflective on the careers of the seniors who have led the team.

“These Seniors have given this school a JV district championship as freshmen, two varsity district championships, and ended it with a school record and their best race of the year,” Ryle said. “It was a great way to end it.”
