Swimming: Rowden, Blevins record victories at meet

Katey Rowden and Allie Blevins started the new year off with a pair of victories Tuesday at the Denton Natatorium.

Competing against all three Denton schools, Decatur posted 11 top-three finishes in their next-to-final outing before the District 6-5A meet Jan. 24 in Grapevine.

Rowden, a three-time state qualifier, won the 50 freestyle in 26.12. She swam 1:02.21 to win the 100 butterfly.

Blevins captured the 200 individual medley in 2:31.52 and the 500 freestyle in 5:48.71.

Blevins and Rowden teamed with Kate Grant and Marissa Ledford for third in the 200 medley in 2:11.6. The quartet was also third in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.27.

Grant took second in the 100 backstroke. Caraline Cowdrey was fourth in 1:20.1 and Ledford sixth in 1:27.12.

Ledford finished fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:40.77.

Emily Howdeshell took seventh in the 100 freestyle in 1:14.16.

The boys 200 freestyle relay of Colton Teter, Robert Davila, Dylan Carter and Ethan Miles finished third in 1:43.25.

Heading to Finish

Davila, Travis Young, Carter and Teter were sixth in the 200 medley relay in 2:10.11.

Miles took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.73. Caleb Black was seventh in 1:33.02.

Carter garnered third in the 200 individual medley in 2:40.09.

Davila finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.34. Teter was fifth in the 100 freestyle in 57.7.
