Decatur swimmers will be in a new venue to battle for district titles in the pool.

After competing in Denton the past few years, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will look to make a splash at Grapevine ISD Natatorium Saturday in the 6-5A meet.

“It’s different but it’s still a great facility and we’re looking forward to it,” said Decatur coach Brooklyn Huffman.

The meet that will include Argyle, Azle, Denton, Grapevine and Birdville along with Decatur starts at 10:30 a.m.

The top six teams and individuals in each event advance to regionals.

Decatur senior Katey Rowden will be looking to add to her collection of district titles in the 50 freestyle. She will also compete in the 100 butterfly.

“This could be her fourth time to make it to state,” Huffman said. “She’s been battling some illness. But she’ll be ready to go.”

Allie Blevins will be one of the favorites in the 500 freestyle. She was fourth last year at district.

Huffman expects strong showings for Kate Grant, Caraline Cowdrey and Emily Howdeshell at district.

“All the girl relays will have a chance,” Huffman said.

The coach also expects the boys relays – the 200 medley and 200 freestyle – to make a strong showing.

Robert Davila, Dylan Carter and Ethan Miles finished in the top four in their individual events at the Denton Dual Jan. 6.
