Bridgeport’s three-time state qualifier Lexi Read will continue her career on the links at Midwestern State University.

Read signed her letter of intent to play golf at the Wichita Falls school Friday.

“It’s the right environment for me,” Read said. “I love the people, coaches and players and the courses they play.

“It’s a great opportunity for me. I’m excited to take my golf skills to the next level.”

Read led Bridgeport to the state tournament last year, taking fourth. She posted her second straight top-10 finish as an individual, finishing sixth in class 4A. She was ninth in 2014.

Read is a three-time district champion.

“It’s been a great career. I’m ready to close out my senior year strong,” Read said.

She is coming off a strong summer of club golf, winning the Tour 18 championship. “The summer went really good,” Read said. “I was struggling at the beginning but started playing real well.”

Read’s short game – chipping and putting – has been her strength throughout her career. She hopes to build on that at the next level.

“I’m ready to get there and start working,” Read said. “My short game is already good. I’m not a long hitter and give up so much yardage. [My short game] has always helped me.”
