Golf: Jones wins tourney after layoff

Playing his first competitive round after a four-month layoff, Decatur senior Drew Jones showed no signs of rust last week.

With only four days of practice after the layoff to rest an injured wrist, Jones fired a 5-under 67 to win the tournament at Latana.

Strong Finish

Jones beat Southlake Carroll’s Andrew Young by two strokes.

Jones led the Decatur team to a 313.

Cade Lamirand shot a 2-over par 74. Bryce Elder finished with an 82. Mason Hudson 90 and Hayden Bennett 97.

Decatur’s second squad shot a 373. Jackson Bearden turned in an 85. Holden Walker fired 92. Dawson Thompson, Clay Gillispie and Kale Bronniman all finished with 98s.
