Golf: Decatur finishes fourth

Led by recent Texas-signee Drew Jones, the Decatur Eagles finished fourth at Gentle Creek Country Club in Prosper Monday.

Decatur’s “A” squad fired a 357. Allen Blue won the tournament with a 319. Decatur’s “B” team finished eighth with a 421.

Jones carded a 79 to finish fifth. Robby Evans of Flower Mound won the tournament by a stroke with a 74.

Decatur’s Hayden Bennett fired an 85 to tie for 15th.

Mason Hudson shot 94 and Clay Gillispie 99.

For Decatur’s second squad, Holden Walker finished with a 99, Dawson Thompson 105, Tyler Chapman 106 and Kale Bronniman 111.

The tournament was the final one of the fall for Decatur.

Decatur’s “A” team was coming off a third-place finish at Bridlewood Nov. 10.

Decatur shot a 345 to tie Denton for second. Denton took second on a tiebreaker. Timber Creek won the tournament with a 342.

Jones won the tournament by six strokes, shooting a 69.

Hudson fired a 90. Jackson Bearden and Gillespie finished with 93s and Bennett 95.

For Decatur’s “B” team, Walker shot 92, Bronniman 100, Thompson and Isaac Ille 101 and Chapman 110.
