Basketball: Sissies pick up first win of season

The Bridgeport Sissies locked down defensively in the final three quarters Tuesday night to pick up their first win of the season.

The Sissies held Peaster to 19 points over the final three frames in a 48-33 victory.

Bridgeport improved to 1-2.

“Good to finally get one in the win column,” said Bridgeport coach Dallas Taylor. “The girls played hard. The ball control was better tonight. We’re still looking for more defensive intensity from the team as a whole.”

The Sissies gave up 14 points in the opening frame and trailed 14-11. But the Sissies tightened up their defense, holding Peaster to three points in the second quarter to take a 19-17 lead.

Bridgeport built the lead to 32-26 after three quarters before outscoring Peaster 16-7 in the final frame.

Natalie Smith paced the Sissies with 15 points. Gabby Mindieta chipped in 10 points with eight rebounds. Delaney Ingram had six points and 12 boards.

Elaina Peyton finished with six points and led the defensive effort.

ALVORD 59, MILLSAP 56

The Alvord Lady Bulldogs moved to 2-0 on the season with a narrow win over Millsap.

Behind 22 points from Cierra Rangel, Alvord won 59-56.

Through two games, Rangel is averaging 29 points.

Randi Taylor added nine points and Bailey Hamilton seven.

PARADISE 64, GUNTER 42

The Paradise Lady Panthers scored an impressive victory over Gunter Tuesday behind a trio in double figures.

Hunter Rogers poured in 17 points in the 64-42 win. April Coursey added 12 and Amber French 11.

Aliyah Read finished with nine and Courtney Cline eight.

The Lady Panthers improved to 3-2. Paradise started the season going 2-2 and taking third at the Northwest Tournament.
