The chase for a playoff spot out of District 5-6A starts Friday for the Northwest Lady Texans.

Northwest (5-7) will open district play at home against Fossil Ridge at 6 p.m.

Northwest is coming off a 1-2 showing at the Lions Club Tournament in Fort Worth. First-year head coach Cody Parris is encouraged by his team’s recent play.

“We’re starting to play better,” he said. “We’re running a lot of new stuff. We’re better than the record says.”

The Lady Texans are getting strong play out of its top four guards – Alexus Brigham, Equalya Smith, Tara Crumpton and Marley Floyd.

Brigham scored 17 and Floyd 10 in a 48-38 win over Haltom. Smith added eight and Crumpton five.

Northwest fell to The Colony 45-36. Brigham had 17 points and Crumpton eight.

Birdville slipped by Northwest 45-42. Brigham and Crumpton finished with 14 apiece.
