Basketball: Bulls move into top 5

The Bridgeport Bulls cracked the top five in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 4A poll Monday.

The Bulls moved up a spot from six to five after their 86-35 pounding of Castleberry Friday, improving to 3-0 in District 8-4A. Bridgeport added an 80-65 win over Oklahoma City Storm North Monday to reach 22-4 on the season.

The game against team from Oklahoma filled the Bulls’ open date during district. Bridgeport returns to action at Springtown Friday.

Friday, the Bulls jumped out to a 34-2 lead in the first quarter and led 54-10 at halftime.

The Bulls handed the game over to their bench in the second half and still outscored Castleberry 30-27.

“It was a good game to see Jacob Tibbels and Andrew Horton play extended minutes and they both performed very well,” said Bridgeport coach Alan Green.

“Keenan Holdman and Ethan Chapman both played very well early to open up the big lead.”

Horton led the Bulls with 16. Tibbels and Holdman scored 12 each. Chapman had 11.

Monday, the Bulls used an 18-11 spurt in the third quarter to built a 15-point lead and pull away for the win.

The Bulls led 41-33 at halftime.

Devonte Patterson scored 24 points and Holdman 24.
