A two-vehicle wreck just after 4 p.m. Wednesday near downtown Decatur resulted in no major injuries but did close a major road. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said Precinct 2 Constable Larry Short was northbound on South Cowan Street when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with West Main Street. Short’s county pickup struck the front passenger side corner of a westbound passenger car driven by Tristyn Hand, 23, of Chico. The impact sent Short’s vehicle into an electrical pole, which was pushed several feet at the base, and Hand’s vehicle ended up in a nearby vacant lot on the north side of West Main. Short’s truck also took out a stop sign on the north end of the intersection. The fire department remained on the scene as of 4:55 p.m. awaiting the arrival of the electric company to tend to the damaged pole.
