WETTEST SUMMER SINCE ’07 – During the meteorological summer – June 1 to Aug. 31 – Wise County received 15.66 inches of rain, well above the average rainfall for that three-month time period. It marked the wettest summer since 2007. Weather watcher Doyle Green of Decatur recorded 2.57 inches of rain in August, slightly higher than the average amount of 2.31 inches for the month. Temperatures for August ranged from a high of 98 on Aug. 22 and Aug. 25 to a low of 58 on Aug. 2. Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands today.

DECATUR SWEEPS FOSSIL RIDGE – Caroline Lowery buried 11 kills, and Cooper Martin added 10 as the Decatur Lady Eagles swept Keller Fossil Ridge Tuesday. Decatur won 25-18, 25-22, 25-18. Makayla Mayfield finished with nine kills for the Lady Eagles, who hit .272 for the match with 39 kills. Northwest beat Arlington Bowie 25-22, 25-19, 25-18. Camryn Berryhill put down 12 kills, and Tessa Harfield finished with 10. Boyd held off Graham Tuesday in four games, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22. The Bridgeport Sissies fell to Breckenridge 25-7, 25-18, 25-11. Jessica White had four kills and four blocks. Mariah Leyva made seven digs.

MEET-N-GREET – In order to beat the heat, Wise County Special Needs Baseball will be having its Fall Season Meet-N-Greet at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave., Bridgeport 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday. COMMUNITY MENTORING – An informational meeting on a new, community-driven mentoring program at Boyd Middle School is 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the school’s cafeteria. CUB SCOUT MEETING – Boys in grades 1-4 interested in joining Cub Scout Pack 115 in Decatur are invited to an informational meeting 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur Wesley Center.

FOOTBALL TICKETS FOR SALE – Advance sale tickets for the Dale Hansen Classic at Stuart Lumpkin Stadium in Waxahachie are on sale in the ticket office at Decatur High School. Decatur will play Alvarado at 3 p.m. Saturday. Pre-sale tickets are $7, and tickets are $10 at the gate. No passes will be honored. The DHS ticket office is at the south end of the second level.

HAY AND FORAGE PROGRAM – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Wise County is hosting a Hay and Forage Program Thursday at the Wise County Fairgrounds, in the Women’s Building. Dr. Larry Redmon, State Forage Specialist, will be the speaker for the educational presentation and will discuss forage quality and forage management. Specialists from John Deere and Ford New Holland will discuss and demonstrate operator techniques with new equipment and how that affects bale quality of the forage you are growing. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., and the free program is at 10. Lunch will be provided by McMaster and Ag Power. You will receive 2 CEU’s for renewal of your pesticide applicator license. FUNERALS – Service for James Leo Holder, 82, of Boyd is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 in Keeter with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 2. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Boyd.

MEMORIAL service for Freda Doris Calder, 92, of Alvord will be held at a later date. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Bessie June Robinson, 74, of Decatur is 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Slidell with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Delbert William Paige, 67, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
