GOOD NEWS ON PROPERTY VALUES – Property values in Wise County showed small gains according to the 2014 preliminary values summary released this week by the Wise County Appraisal District. Chief Appraiser Mickey Hand said new construction was $79 million this year, the highest since $109 million in 2007. The county as a whole also gained $200 million in values from new pipelines and utility-related construction, including power lines. Minerals were up $438 million countywide. EARLY VOTING CONTINUES – The second day of early voting for the May 27 primary runoffs was heavier than the first with 117 votes being cast yesterday, including three in the Democratic primary runoff and 114 in the Republican primary runoff. Early voting continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today through Friday at three early voting locations: Decatur City Hall, 201 E. Walnut; Rhome City Hall, 105 1st St.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.

BABYGARTEN PROGRAM – Chico Public Library is bringing back the BabyGarten program. The six-week summer session will be 11 a.m.-noon each Wednesday beginning today. BabyGarten is an opportunity for infants, toddlers and their parents/caregivers to get together with friends, enjoy story time, singing and crafts. SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT – The Decatur Police Department and the Decatur Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association are accepting team registration and sponsorship forms for the 2nd Annual Back The Blue coed softball tournament to be held Saturday, June 28, at Renshaw Park in Decatur. MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM – The Paradise Historical Society is sponsoring a Memorial Day service 10 a.m., Saturday at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Paradise. Speaker is veteran Jim Parker. Local veterans who have died in or out of service will be honored, and a partial list of names will be read aloud. Applications will be on hand for family members to fill out for active and veteran duty servicemen to be included on a master list maintained by the Paradise Historical Society. QUARTER AUCTION – Renewal Fellowship in Boyd is planning a Quarter Auction Fund Raising event for their Missions/Community Outreach Fund on May 31. HEALTH FORUM – The Wise County Health Forum meeting is 9 a.m. Thursday at the Weatherford College Wise County campus.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY -The monthly meeting of the Wise County Historical Society is noon Thursday at the Wise County Heritage Museum, 1602 S. Trinity St. in Decatur. Lunch will be served, so contact the museum at 940-627-5586 to RSVP by 10 a.m. on Thursday.

FOOTBALL SIGNUPS – Decatur Youth Football signups are being held through May 31 at Fit-N-Wise for ages Pre-K through 6th. Pre-K and Kinder is flag football. Anyone interested can also register online at www.active.com, search Decatur Youth Football.

CLASS REUNION – The Decatur High School Class of ’64 will hold its 50th class reunion starting at 3 p.m. Saturday at Catfish O’Harlie’s Restaurant on U.S. 81/287 in Decatur.
