SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM – The Decatur school district is offering free summer meals to anyone 18 and younger at Decatur High School and Young Elementary School during the month of June beginning June 9. The district is participating in the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program. Meals will include both breakfast and lunch. Students will not have to register, show proof of age, proof of residency or proof of income. CHILD ABUSE TRIAL – A Wise County jury this morning will hear closing arguments before deciding on a verdict in a case of alleged child abuse. Shaun Ray Mullinax, 33, of Rhome is accused of striking his son with a closed fist Nov. 7, 2012, and is facing a charge of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury, a third degree felony. Testimony in the case began yesterday. If convicted, Mullinax could face up to 10 years in prison. Read more in the midweek Messenger.

BAKE SALE – Open Arms is having a bake sale at the Decatur Walmart 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds will benefit their clients who have recently become terminally ill.
GOLF TOURNAMENT – Wise County Special Needs Baseball will hold a four-person scramble Friday, June 20, at The Club at Runaway Bay. Shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $85 per person and $340 per team through June 6 and $100 per person and $400 after that date. Proceeds will help build a custom designed, rubberized latex free turf/field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices while helping prevent injuries.
SNOW WHITE ON STAGE – Wise Performing Arts Guild presents “Snow White” 7 p.m. June 13 and 14 and 3 p.m. June 15 at the Decatur High School Theater. The classical ballet features approximately 180 students from Wise Dance Center, as well as several returning guest dancers. Tickets to all three performances are selling out quickly. DRIVER’S ED – Driver’s education classes at Decatur High School begin Friday, June 6 at the McCarroll Middle School Multi-purpose Building. Class fee is $75, and driving fee is $225.
