HELICOPTER MAKES HARD LANDING – Two people were taken to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur following a helicopter hard landing Tuesday around 3:20 p.m. at the Decatur Municipal Airport. Few details of the incident are available, but the helicopter could be seen upright on its landing skids at the side of a runway with damage to the tail boom, tail rotor and main rotor blade. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said the pilot, Eric Carroll, 57, and another occupant, Russell Timmerman, 47, of Liberty, Mo., were injured and taken by ground ambulance to WRHS. Wise County EMS, the Decatur Fire Department, Decatur Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety officers responded.

STABBING INVESTIGATION – Wise County Sheriff’s officers are investigating a stabbing that took place around 3 early Sunday morning. Wise County Sheriff David Walker said few details of the incident are available because they have not been able to find any witnesses. Nicholas O’Neal, 22, was flown from the scene of a party in the 700 block of Texas 101 near Chico with a stab wound. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he was listed in “guarded condition” Tuesday afternoon, according to Walker.

PHONE SYSTEM INSTALLATION – A new phone system will be installed at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office starting at 2 p.m. today. Only a few phone lines will be taken down at one time. Installation should take one to two hours, but calls to 911 will not be affected.

CHAMBER LUNCH – Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport Community Center. Extension agent Tanya Davis will give a Dinner Tonight cooking demonstration. JUNETEENTH PARADE – The East Side Alumni will lead a Juneteenth parade 11 a.m. Saturday in Decatur. A celebration will follow at 1 p.m. at Lou Ida Willis Park, and at 4 p.m. a historical marker will be dedicated at the site of the original East Side school. PROBLEM SOLVERS PLACE THIRD – The Bridgeport Middle School Community Problem Solvers Team placed third at the Future Problem Solving Program International Conference in Ames, Iowa last week.
