COUNTY INSURANCE TO GO UP – Wise County is facing an 11.3 percent hike in employee health insurance rates effective Oct. 1, but the increase is not as high as originally anticipated. Initial reports indicated the increase might be as high as 38 percent, but options presented by Stephens, Bastian and Cartwright to county commissioners in a special meeting last Thursday came in much lower. The plan approved Monday in a regular commissioners meeting also includes a 6.8 percent increase in dental insurance. There is no increase for life insurance. “It’s not fun, but it’s the nature of the beast in this day and time,” said County Judge Glenn Hughes, in reference to the county’s insurance options. BRIDGEPORT COUNCIL – The Bridgeport City Council approved three out of four action items on its agenda and discussed the merits of mosquito spraying at its meeting Tuesday night. The council unanimously agreed to install a light at the Community Service flagpole in Harwood park, approve a three-year maintenance agreement with Vaisaala and approve a reimbursement agreement with West Texas LPG Pipeline Limited Partnership. No action was taken on City Ordinance 2011-17 to clarify the responsibilities of city administration due to a lack of quorum. Council members also discussed whether or not spraying for mosquitoes in the city limits would be healthy for citizens. Mosquito spraying is expected to be an action item on the next meeting’s agenda.
