SCHOOL ZONE IN THE WORKS – After almost two years of effort on the part of city and school officials, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has approved a school zone on Farm Road 1655 in Alvord. TxDOT spokesperson Natalie Galindo said Monday that a traffic study had been approved through Austin and all that was needed was a new city ordinance. An ordinance designating the school zone passed Jan. 9 and was sent to TxDOT last week. “Once the ordinances are finalized we will proceed from there,” Galindo said. The new law calls for flashing signs both east and west of the Alvord Middle School driveway on 1655, lowering the speed limit from 35 to 25 during school starting and closing hours.
