COMMISSIONERS PROPOSE BUDGET, TAX RATE – Wise County commissioners proposed a $69.8 million budget in a workshop Tuesday morning. They also agreed to keep the current tax rate of 37.89 cents per $100 property valuation, as suggested by County Judge Glenn Hughes in a July 31 meeting. If approved, this means property owners would not pay more in taxes unless the value of their property increased. Neither the budget or the tax rate will be final until commissioners formally approve them in a special meeting Monday, Sept. 8. Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands today. Commissioners also proposed a branch campus maintenance tax for Weatherford College Wise County of 4.618 cents per $100 property valuation.
