RHOME WRECK – As Update was going to press, an accident had been reported on U.S. 81/287 about a mile south of Farm Road 407 near Rhome. Initial reports indicated it was a single-vehicle rollover with road blockage. There had been no reports of serious injuries. The accident was reported around 7:50 a.m. A second minor accident near the site of the first accident had also been reported.

LEE WINS PBR EVENT – Decatur’s Mike Lee won the PBR stop at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. Saturday. Lee scored an 85.25 on Jet Airliner in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. Lee was also the lone rider in the field to make successful rides on all three tries and brought home $43,375.

DECATUR HEADS TO FOSSIL RIDGE – The Decatur Lady Eagles volleyball team will continue non-district play tonight at 6:30 at Fossil Ridge in Keller. The Lady Eagles went 3-3 over the weekend at the PSA Lone Star Circle of Champions Tournament in Murphy. Decatur beat Allen, Sachse and Grapevine. Prosper topped Decatur twice and Austin Westlake topped Decatur. Caroline Lowery put down 68 kills in the six matches, and Stormi Leonard handed out 129 assists. Bridgeport will head to Breckenridge for a 6 p.m. match. Boyd is in Graham for a 5:30 p.m. contest. Northwest will play at Arlington Lamar at 6:30 p.m.

DECATUR RUNNERS FINISH 12TH – The Decatur girls cross country team finished 12th in the Class 6A race at the Marcus Invitational Saturday in Denton. Jessica Kyle finished the 5K course in 20:14 for 35th. Taylor Butler took 85th, Elizabeth Culpepper 90th, Nicole Neighbors 99th, and Lluvia Ramos 102nd. The Decatur boys took 29th in the 6A division. Tyler Wilson ran 17:26 for 78th. Parker Cullop was 151st, Bryce Hoyt 186th, Charles Doubrava 190th and Alen Rangel 196th.

CLASS REUNION – The Bridgeport High School Class of 1994 will celebrate its 20th reunion 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Los Vaqueros restaurant in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Tickets are $20 per person. The event is registered on the BHS alumni page, and you may RSVP or purchase tickets from that page. GUN RAFFLE – Decatur Buyers Association is hosting a dinner and gun raffle 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Wise County Fairgrounds. One $50 ticket buys dinner and the chance to win one of 25 guns. Only 500 tickets will be sold. There will also be live music, a silent and live auction, cow chip bingo and more. Tickets can be purchased from any buyers association member, 2-K Pawn, North Texas Bank, Wise County Messenger, Sam’s Hair Quarters or Chalet of Jewelry.

SCHOOL CARNIVAL – Carson Elementary School is hosting its annual carnival 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the school. There will be free games and prizes, bounce houses, food, a cake walk and more. All community members are welcome. Interested vendors should email Mac Lowe, macandcody@ymail.com.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – Prairie View Elementary would like to invite all grandparents of PVE students to have lunch with their grandchild Friday. Lunch times are as follows: kindergarten 10:45-11:15 a.m.; first grade 11-11:30 a.m.; second grade 11:35 a.m.-12:05 p.m.; third grade noon-12:30 p.m.; fourth grade 11:20-11:50 a.m.; and fifth grade 12:10-12:40 p.m. If you would like to order a lunch, the cost is $3, and your options are chili mac with a roll, cheese pizza, or buffalo chicken ranch salad.

GARDEN CLUB – The Bridgeport Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the 2014/15 year Thursday at the Weatherford College Wise County campus. Lunch will be at 11:30 with meeting and program at noon. Visitors are welcome.

CHICO COUNCIL – The Chico City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate at 6:30 p.m. today. The city has proposed a balanced budget of $2,231,628.17 while keeping the same tax rate as the current year, 48 cents per $100 valuation. The council will adopt the budget and tax rate in the meeting following the public hearing. Other items on the agenda for consideration and action include medical insurance, amending the current fiscal year’s budget, appointment of EDC officers, seasonal hours at the park and regular department reports. The meeting is open to the public.

FUNERALS – Service for Mary Bell Dunn Shellnut, 83, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. today at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Willow Point Cemetery.

SERVICE for James Leo Holder, 83, of Boyd is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 in Keeter with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 2. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Boyd.

SERVICES for Freda Calder, 92, of Alvord and Delbert W. Paige, 67, of Decatur are pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Bessie June Robinson, 74, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Slidell with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.
