CAR STRIKES MOTORCYCLES, KILLS 2 – Two people are dead and five more hospitalized following a crash around 5:45 Sunday afternoon near Slidell involving two motorcycles and a passenger car. Thomas Garcia, 53, of Ardmore, Okla., was the operator of a motorcycle hit head-on by a passenger car on Farm Road 51 at the Wise/Denton County line, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Lonny Haschel. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Cassie Turner, 33, of Ardmore was taken by ground ambulance to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur where she died. The occupants of a second motorcycle struck by the car, Dustin Bailey, 33, of Ardmore and Megan McCleary, 30, of Ringling, Okla., were flown to Medical Center of Plano. Their conditions were unavailable. A third motorcyclist riding with the group took evasive action and avoided being hit. The driver of the passenger car that was southbound in the northbound lane of traffic was identified as Sherrie Rose, 32, of Weatherford. She and a front seat passenger, Debra Crouch, 49, of Weatherford, were flown to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth where they were listed in stable condition late Monday, Haschel said. A 6-year-old in the back seat, Jacob Perrine of Weatherford, was flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth where he was also in stable condition late Monday. Haschel said there is no indication at this time that drugs or alcohol were involved, but the investigation is still in the early stages.

ELECTION DAY - The Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff election is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at four consolidated polling locations around the county. Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 22 will vote at Decatur City Hall, 201 E. Walnut. Precincts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19 will vote at Assumption Catholic Center, 1305 S. Deer Park in Decatur. Precincts 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 will vote at Bridgeport High School, One Maroon Dr. in Bridgeport. Precincts 20, 23, 24, 25 and 27 will vote at Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave. in Boyd. Registered voters who did not vote in the primary election may vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary runoff. However, if you voted in a primary, you can only vote in the same party’s primary runoff election.

RAIN REPORT – Overnight thunderstorms brought close to a half-inch or more of rain to parts of Wise County. Rainfall totals included 0.8 of an inch in Cottondale and Alvord, 0.68 in Rhome, 0.5 in Paradise, 0.49 in Bridgeport, 0.45 in Greenwood and 0.4 in Decatur. Today’s forecast includes a 40 percent chance of more thunderstorms.

DUMP CLOSINGS – Boyd, Chico and Cottondale dumpsites will be closed Wednesday for the Memorial Day Holiday.

RETIRING EDUCATORS – A retirement celebration for Teresa Powell, Jo Woodruff and Robin Phariss will take place at the Decatur High School Library 4 p.m. Wednesday.

BBQ CHALLENGE – The first Eighter from Decatur BBQ Challenge will be held Friday and Saturday at the Wise County Reunion Grounds. The event is being held in conjunction with the JW Hart PBR Challenge at the Wise County Fairgrounds on Saturday night. For entries to the BBQ Challenge, call Randy Burkhart at 817-371-2680. VOLLEYBALL CAMP – Decatur Volleyball Camp is June 9-12. All girls entering second through eighth grade are welcome. Forms are available in any Decatur school office, or you can email brandy.mayfield@decatur.esc11.net. You can submit forms until May 31. You can sign up the first day of camp, however a late fee will be applied.

FUNERALS – Service for John H. Peugh, 73, of Paradise is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Lou V. Bridges, 85, of Paradise is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins-Bridgeport with burial at Paradise Cemetery.

SERVICE for Johnny McDowell, 81, of Rhome is pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

GRAVESIDE service for Mildred Vick, 97, of Saginaw, a former resident and teacher at Decatur, is 2 p.m. today in Azleland Memorial Park in Reno.
