NISD APPROVES BUDGET – At its meeting Monday, the Northwest ISD board of trustees approved its general fund budget for the 2014-2015 school year. Budgeted expenses total $164 million while revenue is tabbed at $161 million. The $2.75 million balance will be paid for with money from the fund balance. “I believe that the budget presented is one that is thoughtfully deliberated and one that is specific to meeting the goals of our strategic plan,” said NISD Superintendent Karen Rue. Earlier in the meeting, school officials held a public hearing for the tax rate, proposed at $1.425 per $100 valuation, this year’s rate. It will be voted on at the board’s meeting in August.

4TH FEST – The Greater Runaway Bay Alliance is holding its annual 4th Fest from 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday. A community fish fry and games for children will be at The Bay Church. There will also be a golf tournament at 9 a.m. that day. Tournament signup is at the Club at Runaway Bay. A fireworks show will take place at dusk.

TALKING QUILTS – The Heritage Place at Decatur will host a Talking Quilt Show 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday at the Decatur Senior Center, 1200 N. Miller. A plate lunch will be served for $3. Door prizes will be given away. More than 20 quilts, each with a story, will be on display.

PRESENTATION AND BLOOD DRIVE – Tweens and Teens are invited to Chico Public Library from 1-2 p.m. today for “Geologically Speaking” with Jim Archer of the Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society. Carter BloodCare will be at the library from 1:30-6 p.m. Donors will be entered into a drawing for two gift cards to Julio’s Mexican Restaurant in Chico. FUNERAL for William Wheeler, 83, of Rhome is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Mary Neal Blanks, 97, of Bridgeport is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Family visitation is 9-10 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Chapel in Fort Worth. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at Ascension and St. Mark Episcopal Church in Bridgeport.
