LAKE LEVEL CREEPS UP – A rainy weekend that spilled over into Monday has had a slight positive effect on the level of Lake Bridgeport. Since Saturday, the lake has risen three-hundredths of a foot, from 22.44 feet low to 22.41 feet low. That slight rise has added 220 acre-feet to the lake and increased its surface area by six acres, according to the Water Data for Texas web site maintained by the Texas Water Development Board. The lake remains at 41.2 percent of capacity.
EDC SURVEY – The Decatur Economic Development Corp. invites residents and those who work in the Decatur area to participate in a survey that will be used by consultants to help the EDC identify target audiences and develop strategies for improving the community’s business climate, quality of life, education, workforce development, infrastructure and marketing activities. BARBECUE FUNDRAISER – The Chico Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual barbecue supper at 5 p.m. Saturday at Chico City Hall, 400 South Hovey St. Entertainment will be provided by the Buckner Band. Cost is $10 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and kids ages 5 and under eat free. The meal will include sliced brisket, chicken or smoked sausage, coleslaw, potato salad, beans, dessert and tea. Whole smoked briskets will also be available for purchase. Cost is $50. FISHING DERBY – The 2014 Kids All-American Fishing Derby is Saturday at Black Creek Lake on the LBJ National Grasslands. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and fishing is 8-11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in three age groups and four categories. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served.
