WARMER TODAY – After a second straight night of bitterly cold temperatures, which dropped to 22 with a wind chill of 13, temperatures will warm above freezing today. This afternoon’s high is expected to reach 46 degrees with an overnight low of 33. A slight chance of rain enters the forecast tomorrow as temperatures are expected to remain above freezing.

SCAM ALERT – Atmos Energy Corporation says beware of a widespread email scam which portrays a bogus bill from Atmos Energy. The emails have been sent to Atmos Energy customers as well as people who are not customers throughout the United States. “The fraudulent billing message references a fake account number and contains links to spam,” said Jennifer Ryan, Atmos Energy media relations director. “The email provides links to view your bill but if the recipient clicks on the link it takes them to a compromised website that harbors malware. We are asking anyone who receives this email to delete it immediately and do not click on any links.” If you have any questions regarding this scam, contact Atmos Energy toll-free at 1-888-286-6700.

WINTER BREAK’S OVER – All Wise County students are back in the classroom today following winter break, so watch for school buses and pay attention when driving through school zones.

STORYTIME – The Decatur Public Library will begin its 2014 storytime sessions Wednesday. Preschool Storytime (best for ages 3-5) is 10:15 a.m. on Wednesdays and Toddler Time (best for 18 months to 3 years) is 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays and 1 p.m. on Thursdays. No signup is required. VACCINATION CLINIC – The Area Health Education Center at Weatherford College Wise County will hold a vaccination clinic 10 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the college.

FOOD SAFETY TRAINING – A food safety training program is 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Wise County office. The training includes materials and the state food manager certification examination. To register, call 940-627-3341 by Friday. Space is limited.

YOUTH FAIR ENTRIES – Entries opened yesterday for the 2014 Wise County Youth Fair, which is March 1-8. 4-H, FFA and FCCLA members have until 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, to enter online at wise.fairmanager.com. Entry fees can be paid online with a credit or debit card or they can be mailed to Wise County Youth Fair, P.O. Box 1062, Decatur, TX 76234. Checks, money orders or cashier’s checks will be accepted. Do not send cash. All payments by mail must be received by the entry deadline (Feb. 1) and should include a printed entry receipt. If you need help entering the Youth Fair, contact your ag teacher, FCCLA sponsor or 4-H leader. You may also call the Wise County Extension office at 940-627-3341 or Youth Fair secretary Liz Hubbard at 940-389-5388.

OFFICE CLOSED – The Wise County Elections Office will be closed today through Friday for training.

BINGO AND STEAK – The Paradise Buyers Association’s bingo and steak dinner is Saturday at the Paradise High School Cafeteria. The meal, which includes steak, baked potato, beans, dinner roll, dessert and tea, will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the bingo is 6-9 p.m. Tickets for the meal are $10 before Jan. 8 or $12 at the door. Contact any Buyers member for presale tickets. All proceeds go to the association, which helps students from Paradise at the Wise County Youth Fair who make the sale.

FUNERALS – No service is scheduled at this time for Shirley Ann Jenkins, 71, of Runaway Bay. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Pauline Mitchell, 94, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Gerald Upchurch, 71, of Rhome is pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Wayne Davis, 76, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
