3 HURT IN WRECK NEAR COUNTY LINE — A head-on collision just east of the Wise/Denton county line Monday morning injured three people, including a Wise County resident. Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lonny Haschel said the two vehicles collided in the construction zone less than a mile into Denton County on Texas 114, east of Rhome, around 9:40. Bambi Trotter, 39, of Rhome was eastbound when her Chevy Tahoe collided with a westbound Chevy Equinox driven by Francisco Guerrero, 34, of Euless. Trotter was flown from the scene to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Her 1-year-old son, who was properly restrained in a car seat, was taken to Cook Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Haschel said. Guerrero was transported to JPS by Wise County Medic 3. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation. Traffic was rerouted in the area for a couple of hours while the scene was cleared.

BISD PROPOSES TAX RATE — The Bridgeport ISD board of trustees approved a proposed district tax rate of $1.23280 per $100 valuation during its budget workshop meeting Monday. The proposed tax rate is composed of a $1.04 tax for maintenance and operations and a $0.1928 interest and sinking fund tax which would be used to pay for bonded debt on construction and equipment. A public meeting on the budget and proposed tax rate will be on Aug. 25. The board also voted to raise teacher salaries by 2 percent and voted to allow Superintendent Eddie Bland to negotiate an energy contract with Cenergistic. DISD PROPOSES LOWER TAX RATE — Decatur ISD has proposed a tax rate drop of a penny for the 2014-2015 school year. At a special meeting yesterday, the school board proposed a maintenance and operations tax rate of $1.04 and an interest and sinking tax rate of $0.25 per $100 valuation. A public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27.

BLOOD DRIVE — The Decatur Rotary Club will sponsor a Carter BloodCare blood drive 2-6 p.m. today at CVS Pharmacy in Decatur.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING — The City of Boyd will spray for mosquitoes at 8 p.m. today and Wednesday.

CLAY SHOOT — The Wise Regional Health Foundation Clay Shoot is Friday, Aug. 22, at Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds near Slidell. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the shoot starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $100 a person or $500 per team. Lunch is provided, and there will be raffle prizes and awards. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP — The Alzheimer’s (and related dementia) support group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the boardroom at the Wise Regional Health System west campus in Decatur. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT — The Second Annual Sissies Elite Basketball Back to School 3-on-3 Basketball Bash is Friday, Aug. 15, at Bridgeport Middle School. FUNERALS — Service for David Wayne Herrera, 52, of Chico is 10 a.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the Mexican Cemetery in Bridgeport. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Howard Musick, 82, of Chico is 2 p.m. today at Hawkins-Bridgeport with burial at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

NO SERVICE is scheduled for Pearl N. Cox, 93, of Slidell. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Billy Garrison, 85, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.
