ARRESTS MADE IN GAMBLING CASE – Two people turned themselves in to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office yesterday on warrants related to a gaming operation at the Navigator Truck Stop in Alvord. Dawood Kohistani, 51, of Dallas and Arian Yusufzai, 36, of Frisco were booked into the Wise County Jail for charges of possession of a gambling device, keeping a gambling place and possession of a controlled substance. Both were released after posting a $6,000 bond. Sheriff’s investigators seized 14 gaming devices and nearly $5,700 in cash believed to be tied to a gambling operation after executing a search warrant on the truck stop May 7.

UIL MEDALISTS – Slidell High School junior Morgan Barnes clinched a bronze finish in computer applications at the UIL 1A Academic State Meet Wednesday.

AWARD CEREMONY – The Northwest School Board will recognize top students for their achievements in regional, state, national and international competitions at 7 tonight at the Vernon Solomon Performing Arts Center at Northwest High School (2201 Texan Drive in Justin).

GREENHOUSE SALE – The Decatur High School agriculture program is selling items from its greenhouse at reduced prices 3-6 p.m. today and Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.

SCHOOL ROUNDUP – Alvord Elementary School is continuing Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten Roundup 8:30-10:30 a.m. today and tomorrow in the front foyer/office area and library. STUDENT PERFORMANCE – The student-directed play “1984” will be performed at the Decatur High School Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday. Entrance is by donation.

BROOM AND MOP SALE – The Decatur Lions Club’s annual Broom and Mop Sale is Friday starting at 8 a.m. on the southwest corner of the courthouse square. An array of mops, brooms, brushes, dish towels, dust cloths, scouring pads, oven mitts and other products are available, all made by the blind. GRAVESIDE service for Robert Alan Peterson, 59, of Runaway Bay is 11:30 a.m. today at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Oran K. Goode, 79, of Bridgeport is 5 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
