OVERNIGHT FIRE DESTROYS HOME – Fire ripped through a vacant house east of Decatur on County Road 4511 early Thursday morning. East Wise, Rhome and Decatur firefighters battled the blaze that was toned out shortly before 3 a.m. By the time firefighters made the scene, flames had fully engulfed the single-story structure. “It was a total loss when we got on scene,” said East Wise firefighter Travis Hull, who held command at the scene. As firefighters mopped up the scene there was no early indication of what ignited the fire. Hull said there was a power line down on the back corner.
INTERIM JUSTICE OF THE PEACE – Wise County commissioners are meeting at 1 p.m. today to discuss appointing an interim justice of the peace for Precinct 2. They discussed the issue at their regular meeting Monday, but no one had a suggestion as to who to appoint. Commissioners decided to have a special meeting next week to again consider the issue, but shortly after the meeting adjourned, County Judge Glenn Hughes decided to move the meeting to today. He emphasized earlier this week that any action taken is done with the utmost respect for Johnson with the acknowledgment that county business must continue. Today’s meeting will be in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse. It’s open to the public.
