HEAT BREAK CONTINUES – Today’s the last day of July, but you might not know it from stepping outside. A cold front that moved through yesterday brought much cooler temperatures. Yesterday’s high only reached 86 at Decatur Municipal Airport, and today’s forecast from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth calls for a high of around 75. A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms is also in today’s forecast. High temperatures are expected to stay below 90 degrees through the weekend.

QUARTER AUCTION – A quarter auction benefiting the Paradise Chamber of Commerce is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at First Baptist Church, 401 Main St. in Paradise. Bidding paddles are $2. There will also be vendor space available for $25 and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $1 each or seven for $5. Proceeds will go to the chamber’s scholarship fund and general operating expenses. VETERAN’S BREAKFAST – Wise County Veterans Group will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Decatur Civic Center. All veterans from Wise County are invited.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Decatur High School Golf Booster Club’s Golf Tournament is 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at The Club at Runaway Bay. Cost is $400 per four-person team. RANCHERS GATHERING – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting the Ranchers Gathering Thursday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for everyone to visit booths at the trade show, which will feature more than 20 agriculture-related businesses offering the newest in technology for beef cattle producers. Dinner is at 6 p.m. The $10 registration fee covers the meal and makes you eligible for one of the many door prizes given away during the program. Stan Bevers, professor and Extension economist – management, with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service out of Vernon, will speak on “Risk Management Tools for Ranchers.” Call the Wise County Extension office, 940-627-3341, for more information or to make your reservations.

LIBRARY PROGRAM – The Rhome library will host story time and crafts for children at 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays through Aug. 7. Daniabelle Hromanik will provide stories in English and Spanish for children up to age 11. Young children must be accompanied by a parent. A hot dog supper is planned for the children and their families 6-7 p.m. Aug. 7.

BLOOD DRIVE – James Wood Motors in Decatur will host the Carter Blood Care bus 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today. Call ahead to Brenda at 940-627-2177 to make an appointment, or come out anytime.

CHICO SCHOOL BOARD – The Chico School Board will hold a special meeting at 7 tonight. Agenda items include changing meal prices, the purchase of a middle school kitchen steamer, discussion of the 2014-2015 draft budget, consideration of tax rates, setting a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rates, employee compensation policies and schedules and a policy change involving class ranking. The meeting is in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road. It is open to the public.

FUNERAL for Wallace LeDell Shackleford, 46, of Paradise is 2 p.m. today at Jones Family Funeral Home with burial at Paradise Cemetery.

SERVICE for Mona J. Mitchum, 81, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Ann Nooe Aden, 72, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. today at Hawkins-Bridgeport. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service.

GRAVESIDE service for Jonnie Cortez Bishop, 95, of Decatur is 3 p.m. Monday at Sweetwater Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for David Herrera, 52, of Chico is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

GRAVESIDE service for Barry Bynum, 69, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Saturday at Jim Ned Cemetery in Runaway Bay. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at 1014 Wooton Ave. in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for Jay Fred McQuinn, 60, of Bridgeport is 3 p.m. Saturday at East Mound Church of Christ in Bridgeport.
