PETS RESCUED FROM BURNING HOME – Firefighters rescued seven animals trapped inside a single-story home that caught fire Wednesday morning on Private Road 4435 several miles southeast of Decatur near New Fairview. Candice Taylor was living at the home with her 11- and 16-year-old daughters. No one was home though when the fire erupted. Although Decatur, Rhome and East Wise fire departments all responded within moments, most of the home was consumed by fire. Wise County Fire Marshal Chuck Beard surmised it would be a total loss. The fire was first reported shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

RABBIT VALIDATION – Wise County rabbit validation for the Youth Fair is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Wise County Extension office. All rabbits that will be shown in the fair need to be there. For information, call Melissa Haworth at 940-210-1254.

ANIMAL SHELTER FUNDRAISER – A 2014 calendar featuring photos of shelter animals and information about the Wise County Animal Shelter is now on sale for a $10 donation at My Closet Resale, 407 S. Washburn, and iCopy Printing, 1650 S. FM 51, Suite 300, both in Decatur or by calling 817-291-2255.

DRAG QUEEN CONTEST – The Senior Class of Alvord High School will hold a Drag Queen Contest Friday night during the Varsity Lady Bulldog/Bulldog basketball games at AHS. All contestants will be students at Alvord High School. The queens who collect the most money will be awarded gift cards. All proceeds will benefit the Class of 2014 Project Graduation.

PAY YOUR TAXES – Wise County Tax Assessor/Collector Monte Shaw and Wise County Chief Appraiser Mickey Hand remind property owners that Friday is the deadline to pay 2013 property taxes. Shaw’s office is located at 404 W. Walnut in Decatur. The appraisal district is located at 400 East Business 380 in Decatur.

BOOK SALE – Decatur Public Library will host a Used Book Sale through Saturday during library hours. All proceeds go to the Decatur Library Foundation to benefit library programs and services. For more information, call 940-393-0290.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE – A Financial Aid Night will be held 6 tonight in the Bridgeport High School library. Counselors will share with families of seniors information about FAFSA and the college financial aid process. All parents of seniors and senior students are invited.

FUNERALS – Service for Little John “Bull/Mo” Morman, 52, of North Richland Hills is 2 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Joyce Ann Martin Jackson, 71, formerly of Chico is 1 p.m. Saturday at Chico Cemetery. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICES for Edwina C. Callaway, 84, Lloyd Fenn, 76, and Alfred Smith, 75, all of Decatur are pending at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Mildred Janelle Sullens, 74, of Euless is 11 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel.

GRAVESIDE service for Bula M. Walker Robinson, 86, of Decatur is 3 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove No. 1 Cemetery in Decatur. Family visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Coker-Hawkins.
