COLLEGE BUILDING WINS AWARD – Weatherford College Wise County earned its builder, Steele-Freeman of Fort Worth, first place in the 2013 TEXO Distinguished Building Awards. The honor is for projects in the $10 to $30 million range which were completed in 2012. The Distinguished Building Awards program is designed to recognize projects that presented particular challenges due to design, location or materials, and those which involved unusual construction techniques. The final appearance and quality of the finished product, and timeliness of completion are also considered. A full story was featured in the midweek Wise County Messenger on newsstands now.
ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT – The monthly support group for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementia is 7 tonight in the board room at the west campus of Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. For more information, call Richard at 940-255-0244.
COOLER TODAY – After temperatures came close to 70 degrees yesterday, it’s expected to be much cooler today with a high of 41 degrees with an overnight low of 24 degrees.
K2 PLAY – The Decatur Public Library will host K2 Play, a monthly playgroup for children in kindergarten through second grade, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. Children will enjoy a short story, sensory activities and games. No signup is required. Call the library at 940-393-0290 for more information.
EARTHQUAKE MEETING TONIGHT – Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter will hold a town hall meeting 5-7 tonight at the Azle High School auditorium located at 1200 Boyd Road to discuss the recent earthquakes in the area. He said he will listen to residents’ concerns and outline what he plans to do. All local residents who’ve felt the earthquakes are encouraged to attend and voice their concerns. More than 30 earthquakes have shaken up residents of the area over the past two months, including two of 3.3 magnitude last week. They’ve been felt all over the southern half of Wise County including Newark, Boyd and even as far north as Decatur.

MASS of Christian burial for Frank “Petie” Bordner, 90, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
GRAVESIDE service for Jessie Howard, 83, of Chico is 2 p.m. Friday at Hoggard-Reynolds Cemetery in Azle. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Home.
