TEEN POSSIBLY TRAPPED IN BURNING HOME – Tragedy struck a Chico home early this morning. Shortly after 4 a.m. a fire was reported at a home located in the 100 block of CR 1639 near Lake Bridgeport’s Wise County Park. A 14-year-old boy who lives at the home was believed to be trapped in a room inside. Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from the roof. It’s deemed a total loss. The father of the boy was transported to the hospital for burns. The boy’s mother and a two-year-old sibling were also transported. As of 6:30 a.m. a body had not been found as firefighters from several departments continue to try and extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Wise County Medics set up a rehab area for firefighters. The firefighters were working to put out the fire in 15 degree weather as snow started to build up on the frozen ground.

SNOWY START – Light snow began falling in Wise County during the early morning hours Thursday, but no major problems had been reported on the roadways as of 7:30 a.m. According to police radio reports, drivers were finding it hard to navigate up the hill at Eagle Summit Drive leading to Decatur High School. Alvord ISD and Springtown ISD are closed Thursday. The snow is expected to end this morning. Today’s high is only expected to reach 23 degrees with wind chill values between -3 and 7 degrees. A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon today.

Big-BoxTIEBREAKERS – The two-game tournament to decide seeding between the three 9-3A co-champs starts at 7 tonight when the Decatur Lady Eagles will take on Gainesville in Krum. The winner will play Krum at 8 p.m. Friday in Sanger. Alvord and Paradise girls coaches flipped for the second and third seeds in 9-2A. Paradise won the flip and will play Godley at 6 p.m. Tuesday in bi-district in Weatherford. As the third seed, Alvord will play Maypearl at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Weatherford. Boyd and Peaster will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Brock to settle the league’s fourth seed. The winner will advance to the playoffs to play Grandview in bi-district.

SLIDELL SETS PLAYOFF GAME – After a one-year absence, the Slidell Lady Greyhounds return to the playoffs Tuesday with a Class A Division II bi-district game against Savoy at 8 p.m. at Whitesboro High School.

CANDIDATE DEBATE – The Wise County Republican Party will host a candidate debate 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at the Decatur Civic Center. All contested candidates are expected to attend.

HELP HAYES — A team roping and silent auction benefiting Hayes Heller and family is Sunday at NRS Arena in Decatur. A church service starts at 7:30 a.m., books open at 8, Calcutta is at 9 and roping starts at 9:30 a.m. All proceeds go to the Heller family for Hayes’ ongoing medical expenses. For information or to donate to the bake sale, silent auction or roping, contact Sammie Elliott at 940-255-4146 or Rachell Shinn at 940-389-9238.  Donations can also be made to the Hayes Heller account at North Texas Bank in Decatur. Chili’s in Decatur is also supporting the roping event. For every Hayes Heller Roping flier presented Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of those sales.

IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – The Texas Department of State Health Services will hold an immunization clinic Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Shots will be administered in the Educational Building at 1200 W. Preskitt Rd. for $10 per child or $20 per family. A parent must be present and should bring the child’s immunization record. RABBIT VALIDATION – Wise County rabbit validation for the Youth Fair is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Wise County Extension office for those who couldn’t make it to last Sunday’s validation due to the weather. For information, call Melissa Haworth at 940-210-1254.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Alzheimer’s (and related dementia) support group for the people who are caring for people with dementia will meet at 7 tonight in the boardroom at the Wise Regional Health System west campus in Decatur. For more information, call Richard at 940-255-0244.

GRAVESIDE service for James Ray Ford, 79, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Frances Ellowayne Folger, 79, of Sunset is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Jolene Taylor, 61, of Alvord is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
