RESTAURANT BURGLARY – Decatur police are investigating a burglary of a local restaurant. Chief Rex Hoskins said someone broke out a window on the south side of Yesterday’s, entered the building and stole a safe with an undetermined amount of money. It happened during the overnight hours Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The break-in was discovered around 8 a.m. yesterday. No other businesses in the area were hit. Anyone with information should call Decatur PD at 940-393-0300.
COMMISSIONERS APPROVE EMS TANKER – Wise County commissioners approved Monday the purchase of two ambulances and a rescue truck with a tanker at the request of EMS Administrator Charles Dillard. Dillard said he wanted to add the tanker to the rescue truck to enable his crews to put out fires when necessary. “We would use it if someone is trapped in the car, and we’re there but the fire department’s not,” he said, in reference to car accidents. When there is a major accident, medics, a rescue truck and firefighters are called to the scene. Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns was originally opposed to the idea. He said it was a “major change in protocol” and said Dillard didn’t have the manpower to operate a tanker. Burns also said he’d been contacted by a fire department that was concerned for medics’ safety. The commissioner first said he wanted to table the issue but ended up making a motion to approve the purchase with the stipulation that the tanker be used for cross-training with the firefighters. The purchase will be made with capital expenditure funds. Read more in the weekend Messenger on newsstands Saturday.
