THEFT ARREST – A Weatherford man suspected in thefts from Wise, Tarrant and Parker counties was arrested last week, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Department. Jerry L. Weeks, 34, was arrested Aug. 13 and later released on $2,500 bond. Investigators found suspected stolen property in a motel room rented by Weeks, who said he found a large portion of the property in a trash bin located at a storage facility in Wise County. Weeks identified at least 10 Parker County homes where he stole packages that had been delivered from UPS and FedEx. He told investigators he sold a large portion of the items for drugs and money. Items stolen included ammunition, jewelry, clothing, electronics, guitars, iPhones, rodeo equipment, toys, cosmetics, hunting equipment, souvenirs, home decorations, printer paper and ink, crafts, oil field tools, cleaning supplies and a pipeline Geo phone.

TITLE I MEETING – Alvord Elementary School will host its annual Title I Parent Meeting 6 tonight in the elementary school cafeteria. Meet the Teacher Night will follow, 6:30-7:15 p.m.

GENEALOGY SEMINAR – The Wise County Genealogy Society is presenting a seminar 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Church of Christ. Lisa Cooke will present four classes: 1-Ultimate Google Search Strategies & Tips, 2-Get the Scoop on Your Ancestors with Newspapers, 3-How the Genealogist Can Remember Everything with Evernote, 4-How to Reopen and Work a Genealogical Cold Case. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

CHISHOLM TRAIL RODEO – The Chisholm Trail Days Rodeo is tomorrow and Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 6 p.m., and performance begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 and are available at AGvantage Farm and Ranch. Slack is 7 tonight and will be free to the public. A rodeo dance with Jake Hooker and the Outsiders will follow the Saturday rodeo. For dance tickets, call 940-399-9558.

VETERANS OFFICE CLOSED FRIDAY – The Veteran Service Office in Decatur will be closed Friday for staff to attend quarterly training in Dallas.

SHELTER OPENING LATE – The Wise County Animal Shelter in Decatur will be closed for training Friday morning and will open at 2 p.m.

HOUSING OFFICE CLOSED – The Decatur Housing Authority will be closed the week of Aug. 25-28 for training and conference. The office will also be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day and will reopen at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2.

MEET THE EAGLE – Decatur High School will offer hot dogs and photos with the Regal Eagle for free at 6 p.m. Saturday. Bring your own camera for pictures. Organizations will sell their Eagle products and T-shirts. Meet the Eagle will begin at 7 in the high school gym. Everyone needs to sit on the home side. Coaches, staff and athletes will be introduced at that time.

PASTA DINNER TICKETS ON SALE – Tickets are now available at iCopy and the First Financial Bank locations in Boyd, Decatur and Bridgeport for the Sept. 14 Decatur Lions Club Pasta Dinner at gogo Gumbo! All proceeds benefit the South Wise Services food pantry. Tickets are $20 each. Service times are 4, 5:30 or 7 p.m.

CRAFT VENDORS – Vendors are needed for the Northwest High School baseball team’s Fall Craft Show, which is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Northwest High School. Booths – which include one chair, helpers to unload, parking and wifi – are $75 for 10 10 or $140 for 10 20. Additional items are $10 for electricity, $10 for tables and $5 for chairs. VETERANS BREAKFAST – The Wise County Veterans Group will hold its weekly breakfast 8 a.m. Saturday at The Club at Runaway Bay. All veterans from Wise and surrounding counties are invited.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for H.L. “Bill” Spain, 90, of Alvord is 1 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Alvord. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Sharon Hayden Harvey, 67, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Friday at Decatur Church of Christ with graveside service at 2 p.m. at Emerald Hills Cemetery in Kennedale. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Mark Lee Adams, 54, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Friday at Coker-Hawkins with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Lea Ann Meador, 51, formerly of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Stephen Taber, 68, of Azle is pending at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
