DECATUR WATER DISTRICT – The Decatur Water Board Tuesday reviewed a proposed $1,578,000 budget for the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. City Manager Brett Shannon, who serves as general manager of the water district, proposed a tax rate of 12.75 cents, the same as this year. The water district provides water bought from Tarrant Regional Water District to the city’s water treatment plant. The lion’s share of the budget goes for debt retirement and water purchases. The board will hold a public hearing on the budget and tax rate on Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. at Decatur City Hall.

ENROLLMENT FAIR – Decatur ISD will host an enrollment fair 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. today and Friday at the Administration Building, 307 S. Cates. Returning students will only need to attend if they haven’t already enrolled online. Computers and staff will be available to help with the online forms. A shot clinic will be offered 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. today only.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ORIENTATION – McCarroll Middle School orientation is today. Sixth graders will meet 9-11:30 a.m. at the sixth-grade campus while seventh and eighth graders convene 1-3:30 p.m. at their respective campus.

FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – The Chico Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the Chico Civic Center, 400 S. Hovey. The Justin Williams Band will perform, and a barbecue meal will be served. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Meal price (not included in admission price) is $5.

DECATUR, NORTHWEST HEAD TO PEARLAND – Decatur and Northwest will open play today in the Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational in Pearland. Decatur plays Round Rock McNeil at 12:15 p.m., Bellaire at 2:15 p.m., and Clear Falls at 4:15 p.m. Northwest will play San Antonio Johnson at 12:15 p.m., Allen at 1:15 p.m. and Clements at 3:15 p.m. In other action, Boyd takes on Nolan Catholic at home at 6 p.m., and Chico plays at the Poolville Tournament.

SALAD CONTEST – The Decatur Senior Center is hosting a Beat the Heat salad luncheon contest 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. Cost is $5 per plate. The Senior Center is located at 1200 N. Miller St.

FREE WORKSHOP – A workshop on securing your estate and retirement planning is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Decatur Civic Center. Participants will receive a workbook and information on protecting assets and ensuring money lasts. Seating is limited. RSVP to 1-866-252-8721.

GARAGE SALE – Wise County Teen Court is having a garage/bake sale 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of First Financial Bank, behind Arby’s, in Decatur. There will be furniture, clothing, dishes and more. The group is still accepting donations. Call Shelly, 940-393-5923.

DOMINO NIGHT – A 42 group plays 6 p.m. every Thursday at the Decatur Senior Center, 1200 N. Miller St.

COLOR RUN – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club will host the 2nd Annual City on a Hill Color Run and Fun Run Saturday, Sept. 13, at Decatur High School. A one-mile Fun Run is at 7:45 a.m., and the 5K run/walk follows at 8:15. Cost is $15 for the Fun Run, and $35 for the 5K by Sept. 8. Late registration will be available the day of the race or at packet pickup Friday, Sept. 12, at Excellent Dental in Decatur. Cost increases by $5. FUNERAL for Joe B. Norwood, 78, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. today at Twin Oaks Assembly of God Church with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
