TxDOT TO ADDRESS PROBLEMATIC STRETCH OF U.S. 81/287 – The Texas Department of Transportation plans to perform maintenance on the northbound lanes of U.S. 81/287 today from Business 380 to the U.S. 380 overpass in Decatur. Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect delays. TxDOT public information officer, Natalie Galindo, said Wednesday work will be done to improve the traction on that stretch of roadway. This section of U.S. 81/287 has been the site of many accidents, most of which have involved 18-wheelers. The most recent wreck was Sunday when a tractor-trailer traveling northbound on U.S. 81/287, near the 380 exit, crashed through the cement barrier into the southbound lanes. One of its fuel tanks broke loose, striking a southbound pickup driven by an Alvord man, who is recovering from his injuries at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
