Three dogs rescued in Boyd house fire

Rescue workers arrived in time to quickly quell a house in fire and safely rescue three dogs trapped inside this morning in Boyd. An off-duty deputy passing by happened to notice heavy smoke billowing from the top of a brick home located in the 100 block of Smith Street. He called 911 and within moments Wise County Medics, Boyd PD and firefighters from Boyd, Newark, Cottondale and Rhome all responded.

Boyd ESD No. 1 Fire Chief Randy Ingram said the fire appeared to start in the attic over the garage. The cause is unknown at this time. Wise County Animal Control officer arrived to check on the dogs, which were all in good health. Homeowner Shelly Rodgers lives there with her son. Neither were home when the fire started. And it appears firefighters were able to save the structure.
