RESPONDER OF THE YEAR – Firefighter Paramedic James Carr, a member of the Decatur Fire Department, was named the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas EMS Responder of the Year this weekend.

RAINY START TO THE WEEK – Much-needed rain fell in Wise County Sunday morning and then again this morning. Rainfall totals as of 7:30 a.m. included 2.01 inches in Bridgeport, 2 in Cottondale, Greenwood and Alvord, 1.5 in Paradise, 1.43 in Decatur and 0.92 in Rhome. The rain should end later this morning.

SONFLOWER CAMP CHANGE OF LOCATION – Due to the rain, the first day of Sonflower Camp today will be held at Crossroads Church in Decatur. The camp will return to Joe Wheeler Park tomorrow, weather permitting.

ROAD WORK – The City of Decatur will be performing street construction 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today and tomorrow on Eagle Drive and West Thompson Streets from Farm Road 51 South to Deer Park, and on Deer Park from Eagle Drive to West Thompson Street. Streets will remain open, but motorists are requested to avoid the area and not park on the street. Paving of the streets is scheduled to begin July 14. Until that time, preparations will continue. CHAMBER LUNCH – The Chico Chamber meeting is noon Tuesday at the Senior Citizens building in downtown Chico. County Court-at-Law No. 2 Judge Steven Wren will be the guest speaker.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM – Chico Public Library kicks off it’s series of free Summer Reading programs for all ages this week. Adults are invited to attend the Literary Elements Book Club 6:30-8 tonight. Participants will discuss a variety of books that have made the transition to television and the big screen. Programs for tweens and teens will be held on Tuesdays, BabyGarten on Wednesdays and a children’s program will take place on Thursdays. For more information, call Michelle at 940-644-2330

IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – The Texas Department of State Health Services will host an immunization clinic 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church Education Building, 1200 Preskitt, in Decatur. A parent must be present and they should bring the child’s shot record. Participants must be VFC eligible. Cost is $10 per child or $20 per family. For information, call 940-665-9315, option 5.

PIZZA FUNDRAISER – Open Arms is having a fundraiser 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bridgeport Pizza Hut. Come by the office at 1401 Cates St. Suite 101 in Bridgeport to pick up a flyer, or print one off of their Facebook page at facebook.com/openarmsofwisecounty. You must present a flyer for proceeds to go to Open Arms.

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT – Wise Electric Coop will hold their annual charity golf tournament Friday at The Club at Runaway Bay Golf Course. It is a 4-man scramble with 1st-5th place prizes, hole in one, closest to the pin, longest drive, and door prizes. Breakfast and lunch is provided. All proceeds benefit 1,000 Miles till Home and Military Warriors Support Foundation. Cost is $250 per team or $65 per individual. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8. TRIAL CANCELED – The jury trial scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today in Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mandy Hays’ courtroom has been canceled.

SNOW WHITE ON STAGE – Wise Performing Arts Guild presents “Snow White” 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Decatur High School Theater. The classical ballet features approximately 180 students from Wise Dance Center, as well as several returning guest dancers. Tickets to all three performances are selling out quickly. FUNERALS – Graveside service for John C. Ward, 58, of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sycamore Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

SERVICE for Clinton Dane Bailey, 80, of Rhome is pending at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL MASS for Maria Ruiz-Quezada, 52, of Chico is 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptizer Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-7 p.m., with rosary said at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Burial will be in Las Bocas, Huejacar Jalisco, Mexico.

MEMORIAL service for Freddie Shannon, 81, of Newark will be held at a later date. Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.
