TRUCK FIRE – Texas 101 was shut down near Sonic in Bridgeport Sunday afternoon due to a truck fire that started about 12:30 p.m. The cab of a Coffman tank truck was fully involved when the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames. No one was injured.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR MANSLAUGHTER – The driver who caused the Memorial Day weekend wreck that killed two motorcyclists near Slidell was arrested last week and charged with manslaughter. Sherrie Ann Rose, 36, of Weatherford was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Wise County Jail on two charges of manslaughter. She was released Friday afternoon after posting bond, which was set at $100,000 for each charge. The wreck happened the afternoon of May 25 on Farm Road 51 at the Wise/Denton County line. Thomas Edward Garcia, 53, of Ardmore, Okla., was killed instantly. A passenger on his bike, Cassie Marlana Turner, 32, of Ardmore, died shortly after her arrival at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. BURGLARY INVESTIGATION – The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at a rural business early Friday. Sheriff David Walker said burglars broke through the doors of the Oliver Creek Store around 3 a.m. and stole money and cigarettes. Witnesses saw someone running from the store, but they were too far away to offer a description. The store is on Farm Road 2264 southeast of Decatur. Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office at 940-627-5971.

GOSPEL OPRY – The monthly Gospel Opry sing-along is 7 tonight at the Wise County Heritage Museum’s G.C. Rann Auditorium, 1602 S. Trinity St. in Decatur. Admission is free, and an offering will be accepted toward the expenses of the museum.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Alzheimer’s (and related dementia) support group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the boardroom at the Wise Regional Health System west campus in Decatur. COMMISSIONERS TO MEET – Wise County Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. today in the third floor jury room at the courthouse. The agenda includes an action item on restricting truck traffic on County Road 2474.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Frances Copeland, 67, of Alvord is 2 p.m. today at the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for Gurtha Louise (Craft) Wilson, 87, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur.

SERVICE for James Sermons, 82, of Decatur is pending at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Carrie Ann Lavohn, 45, of Sanger is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight.

SERVICE for Landry Grace Godwin, an infant, is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Clarence Dalton Cook, 94, of Bridgeport is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
