REUNION BEGINS – The Wise County Old Settlers Reunion officially begins today. The annual Mr. and Miss Pageant for ages 6 months to 9 years is 7 tonight. The theme is “Picnic in the Park.” Applications are available at Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Legend Bank, Chalet of Jewelry, DATCU and North Texas Bank. Teams are also still being registered for the “Put Yo Money Where Yo Mouth Is” washer tournament Tuesday night. Pre-register at wisecountywashers.com. Registration and check-in is at 4 p.m. at the Reunion Grounds, and the tournament starts at 7:30 p.m. Nearly 100 teams have registered so far, and organizers are hoping for 125 teams as they attempt a Guinness world record. Tonight through Wednesday, carnival ride bracelets are $15. Parking is $5.
FUNERAL FOR SLIDELL TEEN WRECK VICTIM SET – Funeral for Colton Perkins, 17, of Slidell is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bolivar Baptist Church with burial at Bolivar Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the church. Perkins, a recent Slidell graduate, was killed around 5:15 a.m. Friday in an accident on Farm Road 455 West between Bolivar and Sanger in Denton County. Perkins was eastbound on FM 455 when he lost control of his Chevrolet pickup just east of FM 2450.
DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP – Wise Regional Health System, the Wise and Montague County Medical Society and Renew Home Health will host a Diabetes Support Group 6:30 tonight in the Education Room of the hospital in Decatur. Dr. Brad Faglie will host a question-and-answer session on the trials and triumphs of living with diabetes and plans of action. If you have diabetes or know someone with diabetes, you are invited. If it’s your first meeting, come at 6:15 to meet Dr. Faglie and get an introduction to the basics.
NUTRITION CARNIVAL – The Outreach Health Services/WIC office in Decatur will hold a Nutrition Carnival 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the McCarroll Middle School track. WIC clients will receive credit for attendance. For more information, call 940-627-5796.
OUTDOOR CONCERT – The Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department will hold its first Concert in the Park 8-10 p.m. Saturday at Harwood Park. The free event will feature country and 80s pop music from Mars Hill Band. RANCHERS GATHERING – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting the Ranchers Gathering Thursday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for everyone to visit booths at the trade show, which will feature more than 20 agriculture-related businesses offering the newest in technology for beef cattle producers. Dinner is at 6 p.m. The $10 registration fee covers the meal and makes you eligible for one of the many door prizes given away during the program.
