Meza gets 20 years

A Wise County jury sentenced Alberto Jose Meza to 20 years in prison Wednesday after finding him guilty of possession of a controlled substance. Meza was arrested July 17, 2012, in Rhome after he was pulled over for speeding at 2:30 a.m. More than 10 grams of cocaine, along with baggies and a digital scale, were found hidden behind the dashboard of the pickup he was driving. The sentence is the maximum for the second-degree felony. The jury did not assess a fine. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Berry said he was “proud of the jury” for “sending a message to people who want to bring drugs into Wise County — go somewhere else.”
