J.W. HART PBR CHALLENGE IS SATURDAY – The 11th Annual J.W. Hart PBR Challenge is Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds, 3101 South Farm Road 51 in Decatur. BBQ CHALLENGE – The first Eighter from Decatur BBQ Challenge will be held today and Saturday at the Wise County Reunion Grounds. The event is being held in conjunction with the J.W. CRASH INJURES BOYD MAN – Christian Smith, 21, of Boyd was flown to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth late Thursday night following a one-car wreck on County Road 4698 about a mile east of Farm Road 51 in southern Wise County. Department of Public Safety Trooper Carson Bening said Smith was westbound on the county road around 10:30 when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway. He rolled his vehicle at least once, and it landed upright. CareFlite was called to transport Smith to the hospital.
BIOTERRORISM DRILL – The Wise County Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) will conduct an exercise/drill 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Rann Elementary School in Decatur. CRI is a federally-funded program managed by the state SNS (Strategic National Stockpile) to prepare personnel to respond to and recover from any large-scale public health or bioterrorist event. The drill conducted on Saturday is a state-mandated Regional Dispensing Exercise in response to a mock bioterrorism attack on the Metroplex. DECATUR THEFTS – The Decatur Police Department is seeking information on a couple of thefts in the city from the overnight hours Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Thieves broke into a fenced off area at the Decatur ISD maintenance office and stole a couple of push mowers and leaf blowers. That same night, a welder was stolen from the Landmark Industrial Park. Police Chief Rex Hoskins said the two thefts are connected, because a rake stolen from the school was found at Landmark. TEEN COURT TRAINING – Any area teen age 12-18 interested in learning more about the Wise Area Teen Court program is invited to a training Saturday at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.
