CHANCE OF STORMS SUNDAY – The National Weather Service forecast for this weekend includes a good chance of storms Sunday evening into Monday morning. The NWS places rain chances at 30 percent during the day Sunday, increasing to 60 percent Sunday night into Monday. Damaging straight-line winds, locally heavy rainfall and cloud to ground lightning could be the main threats.

ROAD WORK – The City of Decatur will be performing street construction 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 10 on Eagle Drive and West Thompson Streets from Farm Road 51 South to Deer Park, and on Deer Park from Eagle Drive to West Thompson Street. Streets will remain open, but motorists are requested to avoid the area and not park on the street. Paving of the streets is scheduled to begin July 14. Until that time, preparations will continue. CRUISE NIGHT – Decatur Main Street’s Cruise Nights on the Courthouse Square is 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Registration is 4-7 p.m., $10 per vehicle.

SUMMER READING KICKOFF - Decatur Public Library Summer Reading Club Kickoff  is 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. The carnival-style celebration is for all ages and marks the start of Fizz, Boom, Read! a summer program at 10:30 a.m. and noon every Tuesday beginning June 10 and ending July 29. BOYD CLEAN-UP DAY – The City of Boyd Annual Clean-Up Day is 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or until bins are full at the City’s Public Works Facility located at 733 E. Rock Island Ave. Saturday. Normal household trash will be accepted. Paint, batteries, tires and other “special disposable items” cannot be accepted. This service is available to all City of Boyd residents. A copy of a current city utility bill is required.

CANCER FUNDRAISER – The Hills Nursing and Rehab in Decatur will host “Alex’s Lemonade Stand,” a nation-wide event to raise money for childhood cancer research, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today.

SWEETWATER CEMETERY HOMECOMING – Sweetwater Cemetery homecoming is Sunday. Preaching starts at 11, followed by lunch and a business meeting.

GARVIN CEMETERY HOMECOMING – The Garvin Cemetery Association Homecoming is noon Sunday with a covered dish lunch followed by the business meeting. Call 940-433-2731 for more information.

BAKE SALE – Open Arms is having a bake sale at the Decatur Wal-Mart 8 a.m.-6 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds will benefit their clients who have recently become terminally ill.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Matilde Ufret, 89, of Decatur will be held at a later date. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICES for John C. Ward, 58, of Decatur and Clinton Bailey, 81, of Rhome are pending at Coker-Hawkins.

FUNERAL for Ila Sue Reed, 90, of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. today at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Maxine Thorell Griffin, 86, of Rhome is 11 a.m. today at Aurora Cemetery. Coker-Hawkins is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Maria Ruiz-Quezada, 52, of Chico is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Gail Gray Pugh, 68, of Bridgeport is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Ringgold Cemetery. Family visitation is 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at Jones Family Funeral Home.
