SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – Bridgeport Police Assistant Chief Steve Stanford confirmed yesterday that their department was working a shooting investigation at a home in the 1200 block of Carpenter St. A female in her mid-30s was discovered by a family member in a back bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest around 9:30 yesterday morning. She was flown to JPS in Fort Worth where she was in critical condition late Thursday, Stanford said.

EARLY VOTING ENDS TODAY – Today is your last chance to vote early before Tuesday’s primary. Early voting is being held at Decatur City Hall, the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center and Rhome City Hall. Yesterday, 268 people voted.

NO BURNING – A red flag warning has been issued for Wise County 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today. According to the county’s burn ban, no outdoor burning will be allowed during that time frame. The National Weather Service expects westerly winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour and relative humidity values less than 20 percent this afternoon behind a dry line. Those factors combined with dry vegetation will create “explosive fire growth potential,” according to the NWS. We will enjoy highs near 80 today and Saturday before a big change is expected Saturday night into Sunday. Temperatures Sunday are expected to fall to around 26 by 5 p.m. with a 70 percent chance of freezing drizzle Sunday afternoon.

QUEENS CONTEST – The 2014 Wise County Youth Fair kicks off 7 p.m. Saturday with the Queens Contest at the Women’s Building on the Wise County Fairgrounds. Livestock shows start first thing Monday morning and continue throughout the week. Youth will also be participating in food competitions, arts and crafts, clothing, photography and ag mechanics contests. The full schedule is in this week’s All Around Wise. RODEO EVENT – Five Wise County bullriders will compete in the Professional Bull Riders Dr Pepper Iron Cowboy V event 7 p.m. Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. A full story was featured in the midweek Wise County Messenger.

OPEN HOUSE – Decatur ISD will hold an open house to celebrate the restoration of the 1938 high school building and the new home of the DISD administration offices 2-4 p.m. Sunday. The building is located at 307 S. Cates.

GARAGE SALE – The family of Wise County resident David Ray Crunk Jr., 33, is collecting items for a fundraising garage sale. Crunk is at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix awaiting a heart transplant.
