ALVORD WRECK – A California teen was flown to a Metroplex hospital following a one-vehicle wreck in Alvord this morning. The accident happened around 6:35 on U.S. 81/287 near Farm Road 1655 and involved a pickup. Investigators said Devon Moore Ray, 19, was driving north on U.S. 81/287 from Denton to visit his parents in California when his truck rolled through the median several times and ended up in the southbound lanes. He was flown from the scene to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Wise County EMS and the Alvord Fire Department responded.

WATERMELON FESTIVAL – The Alvord Watermelon Festival and barbecue cookoff is tonight and tomorrow. Cookers can register and set up all day today. This evening’s festivities include the Mike Watts Memorial Scholarship Fish Fry at 6 and a washer tournament at 6:30. Music starts at 7 p.m. with Megan Nichols Adams and Phil Hamilton. The Watermelon Pageant is at 10 a.m. tomorrow, and the theme is “summertime fun.” Cost to enter is $20. Call Lacey Chestnut, 940-255-1057. CHICO CHAMBER – The Chico Chamber of Commerce meets Tuesday at the Senior Citizens Building on the west side of the Chico square. Business meeting is at 10:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. Cost is $7 a plate. Guest speaker is Eugene Grooms.

BOOSTER CLUB – The Alvord Booster Club meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Alvord High School cafeteria.

VETERANS BREAKFAST – The Wise County Veterans Group will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Club at Runaway Bay. All Wise County veterans are invited.

SUMMER READING – Saturday is the final day for children to bring their Summer Reading log and pick up prizes at Decatur Public Library, 1700 Farm Road 51 South.

SEASON TICKETS – Decatur High School 2014 football season tickets are on sale at the DHS Ticket Office, 750 E. Eagle Summit Dr. Reserved ticket holders may only purchase the same tickets they had last season. Cost is $35 per seat for five home games ($7 per game). Tickets may be purchased 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Blue-White Scrimmage or 8:30 a.m.-noon Aug. 11-15. For all first-time season ticket buyers and those who wish to purchase additional tickets or change their existing seats, tickets will go on sale first-come, first-served 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Princeton Scrimmage at Eagle Stadium. SAFETY CLASSES OFFERED – Weatherford College-Wise County Workforce and Continuing Education is offering safety-related classes including Industry Emergency Response and Office Security/Active Shooter, Home Fire Safety/Emergency Plan, CPR/AED (NSC) and First Aid, and Hazardous Communications and Confined Space Program. SCHOOL SUPPLIES – Decatur Church of Christ is hosting Gear Up, a free school supply event, 5-7 p.m. Sunday. Full-size backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away to students in kindergarten through sixth grade who are accompanied by an adult. There will also be free haircuts, clothes, books and other back-to-school services. A barbecue meal will be served. The church is at the corner of Farm Road 51 South and Preskitt Road.

FUNERAL for Linda Gail Smith, 53, of Rhome is 2 p.m. today at Aurora Baptist Church with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Don Nimmo, 75, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. Saturday before the service.

FUNERAL for Larry Groves, 55, of Chico is 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Chico. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home.
