ROSS FILES APPEAL – Former Precinct 4 County Commissioner Terry Ross isn’t giving up after being removed from office March 19. He appealed the decision to the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth and filed the paperwork yesterday in the 271st District Court in Decatur. Ross was removed from office March 19 when District Judge Roger Towery issued a summary judgment in the civil suit regarding the commissioner’s removal. The judgment was issued at the request of County Attorney James Stainton. Ross’ appeal will be heard by a three-judge panel, and Stainton said it could be the end of summer before it’s resolved. RAINFALL – Parts of Wise County saw light showers throughout the afternoon yesterday. Rainfall totals for Thursday include .2 inches in Paradise and Cottondale, .15 inches in Bridgeport and .08 inches in Decatur.

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Wise County Democratic Party will meet 6:15 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the courtroom of the Wise County Law Enforcement Center, 200 Rook Ramsey Dr., in Decatur.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Bridgeport Historical Society will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Weatherford College Wise County. David McComis will speak on the topic “What you don’t know about the prison system.”

SUPPORT GROUP – Cambio Life Recovery Center in Bridgeport will hold a free, four-week women’s group for women who have a loved one who suffers from addiction or alcohol abuse. RANN FUNDRAISER – Rann Elementary will hold a Give Back Event 10:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. Eat at Chili’s in Decatur and mention you are supporting Rann Elementary and 15 percent of event sales will go back to the Rann Elementary PTO for school supplies and more.

SPRING FLING – The First Baptist Church of Boyd will hold its Spring Fling 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event will include an egg hunt, bounce houses, a gospel music jam session from 2 to 4, and a fish fry at 4. Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be served. The Band of Faith will perform a live concert.

SCHOLARSHIP – The deadline for the Decatur Junior Woman’s Club scholarship has been extended to Monday, April 21. Applications are available in the front office at Decatur High School. Recipients will be selected based on community service. The scholarship is open to any DHS senior.

HOLIDAY CLOSING – Wise County Animal Shelter will be opened until 3 p.m. today but will be closed tomorrow in observance of Good Friday. It will re-open 8 a.m. Tuesday.

BAKE SALE – Legend Bank’s Relay For Life team, Carolyn’s Cookie Monsters, will have a Good Friday bake sale today at the bank in Decatur. The team was formed in memory of longtime employee, Carolyn Neighbors, who lost her battle with cancer in October. Among the items at the bake sale will be Carolyn’s famous chocolate chip cookies. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

RELAY CAPTAINS – A Relay For Life of Wise County team captains’ meeting and bank night is 7:30 p.m. Monday at Candlewood Suites in Decatur. Captains are asked to bring a basket for the auction at Relay. They can also pick up their shirts and other last-minute information. This is the final meeting before the event, which is Friday, April 25, at the Decatur Middle School track. For information, call Stephanie at 940-393-3165.

SWEETWATER CEMETERY – A working day with lunch on the grounds at noon is Saturday, April 26, at Sweetwater Cemetery.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Jerry O’Brien, 77, of Cottondale is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Dianne Wilson Wheeler, 68, of Fort Worth is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
