Police Chief Rex Hoskins said U.S. 81/287 in south Decatur was re-opened to southbound traffic about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Both lanes were shut down around 3 p.m. when an 18-wheeler crashed into a concrete construction barrier and caught fire near the crossover close to Karl Klement Ford. Hoskins first thought one of the truck’s tires blew, causing the accident, but he told the Messenger Wednesday night that upon further investigation, it appeared the truck just drifted into the barrier. “There was no evidence of a tire blowing or anything else that we can see,” Hoskins said. The chief said traffic will likely be reduced to one lane for several weeks in that area. TxDOT should be on scene Thursday morning to remove pavement damaged in the accident. The truck’s driver, Bradley Eastman, 51, of Fort Worth, was uninjured in the accident, and no other vehicles were involved.
