As the snow fell Tuesday afternoon over Wise County, five playoff-bound girls basketball teams sat on the sidelines waiting for a break in the weather.
The icy conditions that canceled school Tuesday morning also postponed bi-district games for Decatur, Boyd, Alvord, Paradise and Slidell. All are hoping to get on the floor to start the playoffs Wednesday.
Alvord coach Rob Schmucker’s Lady Bulldogs will take on Maypearl at 8 p.m. in Weatherford after Paradise plays Godley at 6 p.m.
“It’s frustrating,” he said. “After not having a practice game, my girls just want to play. Maypearl and us are in the same boat. We can’t control it. We just need to worry about the things we can control.”
Alvord and Slidell have been off the longest, playing their final regular season games Feb. 4.
Slidell will play Savoy in the bi-district round of the Class A Division II playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Whitesboro.
Paradise hammered Valley View in a warm-up game Friday.
Decatur and Boyd are coming off play-in games.
Decatur, who beat Gainesville and Krum Thursday and Friday to earn 9-3A’s top seed, will play Aubrey Wednesday at Flower Mound Marcus at 7.
Boyd needed to beat Peaster Saturday to earn a spot in the playoffs as 9-2A’s fourth seed. They will play Grandview at 6:30 Wednesday in Aledo.
Schmucker expects the layoff to slow both teams early Wednesday.
“We’ll need to get out of that rut and play the way we have all year,” he said. “It’ll be more mental than anything.”
