Texans win 4×400 to claim 4-5A title

When Kerry Gleason crossed the finish line more than two seconds in front of Southlake Carroll’s anchor leg in the 4×400, he put the final touches on the District 4-5A championship for the Northwest Texans.

The relay win, one of two on the night for the Texans, led the way to the title. Northwest finished with 154 points, 11 in front of Carroll.

Richland and Timber Creek tied for third with 71.

Northwest won six gold medals on the way to the league title. Gleason captured three, including running the 4×400 with Clarence Cordova, Ty Thomas and Dillion Maples, which finished in 3:22.61.

Gleason won both hurdles. He ran a winning time of 14.97 in the 110 hurdles, and 39.32 in the 300 hurdles.

The Texans’ 4×100 relay squad of Saveion James, Chase Morrison, Reggie McDaniel and Jordan Muldrow won a gold medal in 41.64, edging out Carroll at the finish and setting a school record.

Morrison celebrated a title in the 200 after clocking 21.69.

Duke Kacinski captured the Texans’ other gold medal, throwing 167-8 to win the discus. He took third in the shot put with a toss of 46-7.25.

Zach Kirkland garnered a silver medal in the 1600, running 4:17.54.

Keller Central’s Jacob Gray edged out Northwest’s Muldrow for the title of 4-5A’s fastest man. Gray finished the 100 in 11.01. Muldrow was second in 11.04.

Northwest will send athletes to Class 5A Area meet in Coppell Thursday and Friday in 13 events.

LADY TEXANS COME UP TWO POINTS SHORT

Keller Timber Creek held off the Northwest Lady Texans in the 4×400 to capture the 4×400 as well as the team title.

Timber Creek finished the meet with 127 points. Northwest was two points back with 125.

Timber Creek won the 4×400 in 3:55.41. The Northwest squad of Janae Tatum, Baylee Nelson, Micah Solomon and Hailey Krieg took second in 4:00.31.

Northwest’s 4×200 team of Megan Greathouse, Tatum, Solomon and Krieg captured the gold medal in 1:45.54.

The same group took second in the 4×100 in 49.71.

Nelson won the 800 in 2:20.36. She was second in the 400 in 1:01.37.

DeKiyala Jones took second in the 100 hurdles in 15.43.
