The Northwest Texans ended the regular season and picked up some momentum heading to the playoffs Wednesday, knocking off Keller Fossil Ridge.
Behind 29 points from Taylor Johnson and 21 from Josh Tatum, the Texans (23-7, 10-4) outlasted Fossil Ridge in a 73-68 overtime win.
The loss dropped Fossil Ridge out of a tie for the District 4-5A title. The Texans locked down the league’s third seed.
Northwest will open the playoffs at 8 p.m. Tuesday against Arlington Bowie at Colleyville Heritage High School.
The Texans outscored Fossil Ridge 11-6 in the extra frame to get the win.
To get the game to overtime, Northwest needed a fierce fourth-quarter comeback. The Texans trailed 43-36 at the end of third quarter. but poured in 26 points in the fourth to tie the game at 62.
Northwest led 28-23 at halftime but lost the lead in the third as Fossil Ridge went on a 20-8 run.
David Ogunwolu pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with seven points for the Texans.
