The Northwest Texans’ hopes for a District 4-5A title took a hit Friday.
The Richland Rebels held off Northwest for a 72-63 victory, dropping the Texans (20-6, 8-3) two games back of first-place Keller with three games remaining.
“We are definitely in [the playoffs],” said Northwest coach Mike Hatch. “We could finish in any of the four spots.”
Northwest took on last-place Keller Central Tuesday. The Texans will close with league-leader Keller and second-place Fossil Ridge.
The Texans will need to step up their defense down the stretch. Richland ripped off 44 second-half points, including a 20-12 third-quarter run, in the nine-point win.
Richland shot 49 percent from the field, hitting 23 of 47 shots.
Northwest held a 29-28 halftime lead.
The Texans shot 42 percent. Taylor Johnson poured in 35 points, hitting 10 of his 18 attempts. He also grabbed six rebounds.
Elijah Christman added 11 points.
Josh Tatum scored seven and handed out six assists.
