Texans close in on first place

The Northwest Texans moved within a game of first place in District 4-5A Tuesday.

Josh Tatum led a quartet of Texans in double figures with 17 points in a 70-36 win over Keller Central.

The Texans (21-6, 9-3) have two games left against the two teams they are chasing in the 4-5A standings – Keller and Fossil Ridge. Northwest played Keller at home Friday and will head to Fossil Ridge Tuesday.

The Texans jumped on Central early with a 27-point opening frame to build a 17-point lead. Northwest led 40-23 at halftime and 59-31 going into the fourth.

Taylor Johnson scored 13, grabbed five rebounds and tied Tatum for the team lead with four assists. Elijah Christman added 12 points. Jesse DeVries chipped in 10 points.
