Softball Roundup: Guthrie, Gayler homer in Alvord win

Reagan Guthrie and Brittany Gayler each went deep as the Alvord Lady Bulldogs blasted Millsap in the District 9-2A opener Tuesday.

Alvord moved to 1-0 in the league and 11-1 overall with the 18-0 win.

Gayler went 3-for-4 with a triple and the home run for Alvord. Five Lady Bulldogs had multiple hits. Guthrie, Mikena Mader, Kaely Beaver and Kayli Baker each went 2-for-4. Mader tripled and walked twice.

Alvord went to the Lindsay Tournament this weekend and will resume 9-2A play at 1 p.m. Monday at home against defending district champion Brock.

BOYD 14, GODLEY 4

Chandler Hammon belted a walk-off grand slam Tuesday for the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets.

In their final tuneup before District 9-2A play, Boyd pounded Godley 14-4 in five innings Tuesday.

Hammon drove in six runs, doubling and hitting the grand slam.

Boyd had 12 hits as a team and scored four runs in the second, six in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Brittney Howard, Kassiddy Lester and Chelsea Arlington drove in two runs each. Lester went 2-for-2 with a triple.

PERRIN-WHITT 2, BRIDGEPORT 1

Perrin-Whitt pushed across two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth Tuesday to knock off the Bridgeport Sissies 2-1.

Hailey Hollingsworth pitched a solid game for the Sissies, striking out six and allowing the two unearned runs on two hits.

Cheyenne Davidson doubled twice, going 3-for-3, and scored the Sissies’ lone run. Bridgeport went to the Bowie Tournament this weekend.

NORTHWEST 9, FOSSIL RIDGE 1

Catherine Totty held Fossil Ridge to one run on four hits over seven innings as the Northwest Lady Texans won their District 4-5A opener Wednesday 9-1.

Totty struck out five and walked one.

Brianna Barnhill led off the sixth with a solo homer. She knocked in two runs, going 2-for-4. Totty, Tuesday DerMargosian and Kelsey Rhine drove in two runs each. Sydnee Hinkle went 2-for-2 with a triple.

PARADISE 19, BOWIE JV 0
PARADISE 6, DECATUR 4
PARADISE 1, PERRIN-WHITT 0

The Paradise Lady Panthers won all three games on the opening day of the Bowie Tournament Thursday.

Shelby Lavigne drove in six runs, homering and tripling as Paradise beat the Bowie JV 19-0. Shelby Barclay added a double and three RBIs.

The Lady Panthers scored six runs in the fifth to beat Decatur 6-4. Lavigne tripled and drove in two. Alyssa Munoz added two RBIs.

Brittany Roberts homered for Decatur as part of a four-run fourth.

Randa Taylor struck out six and held Perrin-Whitt to three hits in five innings in a 1-0 Paradise victory. Lavigne drove in the game’s lone run in the fourth.
